I am all over this issue of Vitals
I wrote this cover story for the 2018 edition of Vitals, a healthcare magazine published by the Nashville Post each fall. The story is essentially a profile of Brentwood, Tennessee-based naviHealth, which is following an upward trajectory as a care convener, but it also introduces the uninitiated to the concept of bundled payments.
As more and more surgeries and health conditions fall under the umbrella of value-based care, and more specifically are reimbursed through bundled payments, companies like naviHealth play an important role in making sure all the various parties involved a patient’s care after they leave the hospital are helping and not hurting a health system’s chances at full payment.
I had a couple of other articles in the 2018 Vitals issue, including one on telehealth and its “march to the mainstream.” From telestroke to school-based telehealth (did anyone know that Sevier County, Tennessee, has one of the most robust school-based telehealth programs in the country?), we dig into the current trends related to remote healthcare delivery. I also interviewed a very smart group of data scientists and doctors at Meharry Medical College to learn more about their new data science initiative, in a piece called “Tackling Disparities With Data Science.”
