American Spirit: Fired Up
I know I’ve mentioned this before, but a really cool opportunity I’ve had has been the sole writer of the Today’s Daughters section in American Spirit, the magazine for the Daughters of the American Revolution. It’s a one-page section that profiles a current member of the organization and the really neat contributions she makes to her community or country.
It’s 2017, and there are six issues a year, so if my math is correct, I’ve written profiles of more than 75 passionate, unique and generally really awesome women. In the September/October 2016 issue of the magazine, I got the chance to talk with Liza Babington, a volunteer firefighter with the Boone County Fire Department in Columbia, Mo., who lived full-time at the fire station so she was always ready when the call came in.
